Village of Bosque Farms History and Links:
Bosque Farms is a little farming village south of Albuquerque, NM along the old Camino Real. The area was first home to the Tiwa and Piros Pueblos.
The Spanish came up the middle Rio Grande Valley in 1540 and in 1716 the area became a part of the Antonio Gutierrez and Joaquin Sedillo land grant. After the 1739 flood that moved the Rio Grande west, the area became known as Los Pinos. Los Pinos (Bosque Farms) changed ownership many times over the centuries and was even briefly occupied by Confederate soldiers in February of 1862 during the Civil War.
Finally in 1934 the land was sold to the New Mexico Rural Rehabilitation Corporation a part of President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal and named the Bosque Farms project. The original 2,420 acres was divided into 42 parcels , 40 to 80 acres in size and sold to many that were escaping the dust bowl areas.
Peralta, New Mexico History and Links:
Peralta is located on the Lo de Padilla Land Grant which was granted by the King of Spain prior to the 1690 Pueblo Revolt and reclaimed in 1718. Peralta, itself as a community, is first mentioned in Catholic Church records in 1835. Peralta has a rich an colorful history having been the Valencia County Seat for a brief period from 1848-1852 and the during the retreat of the confederate forces from the territory the “Battle of Peralta” took place near and around the home of the Territorial Governor Henry Connelly. Entering into the 20th century Peralta joined Los Lunas and Belen as one of the three economic centers of the county. However, unlike the other two communities and being by-passed by the railroad, Peralta settled into being a small farming community for nearly the next 100 years.
